The 2021 Ford Escape Is Perfect for Your Family

The 2021 Ford Escape is a subcompact SUV with the power and function to attract drivers as a family vehicle. We go into the reasons why the 2021 Ford Escape is a must-consider for drivers.

Engine

The Ford Escape's trim levels, the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium, feature several models. The SE and SEL trims offer both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Only the S and Titanium lack hybrid versions, The standard S trim comes with a basic 1.5-liter EcoBoost Engine with eight-speed automatic Transmission. Optional on the S trim is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost Engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology designed to save fuel.

With the non-hybrid SE and SEL, the trims have a 1.5-liter EcoBoost Engine. An option for the SEL is the 2.0-liter EcoBoost Engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology. For the hybrid SE, the trim has a Hybrid 2.5-liter iVCT Atkinson-Cycle I-4 engine with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). A continuously variable transmission is an automatic transmission that allows the Escape transmission to change through an unbroken range of gears measures. This gives the Escape a smooth, uninterrupted ride.

For the SE Plug-in Hybrid, the trim features the plug-in 2.5-liter iVCT Atkinson-Cycle I-4 engine powertrain. The SEL hybrid offers the same engine as the SE hybrid, and the SEL variant features the same plug-in engine as the SE's. The Titanium is the exception to the Escape's hybrid models, featuring just the EcoBoost 2.0 liter.

Horsepower

The Escape is a strong vehicle for a subcompact SUV, with varying horsepower according to trim. The base engine has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. For the higher level 2.0-liter engines, the Escape boasts a stronger 250 horsepower and torque of 280 pound-feet. This is optional in the SEL and standard in the Titanium. All models of the Escape except for the Titanium and SEL with all-wheel drive and the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbo can tow 2,000 pounds. With the Titanium and the SEL AWD, the Escape can tow 3,500 pounds.

Safety

Power is important in a vehicle, but safety is essential, especially when it comes to safety for children. Featuring two complete sets of LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), connectors for the rear outboard seats, and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat, the Escape trims have lower anchors from each side. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Escape's LATCH system the highest rating of Good+. This designation means the vehicle's child safety system is easy and versatile to use. However, the Escape doesn't stop here for safety.

On all trims, five airbags are standard, with the driver airbag, passenger airbag, front head, and side airbag, and rear-seat head airbag. Other basic safety features such as four-wheel disc brakes, brake assist, electronic stability control, and blind-spot monitoring have helped the Escape earn high five-star ratings from the NHTSA for its overall rating. This rating is based on tests like frontal and side crash tests and the important rollover test. The Escape is recommended for its strength and is safety consciousnesses.
